Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have made the decision to permanent close.
Thank you for so many years of support.
Nearly 10 years ago, I started peeking in windows all over town dreaming of a physical location for a yoga studio. I dreamed of a space where people would come, share yoga, share smiles, share friendships and share support. Less than six months later, that studio was born.
As I look back at all our Facebook posts, I remember all the fun events, sessions, classes and gatherings that we had together. The studio has had its share of struggles, the love in this little community is what kept me going at it for so long.
I had planned our regular shut down at the end of May as the summers tend to be slow. We planned for all our passes to be used before that time. When the much needed COVID restrictions hit, my business model was not prepared for such a shift but I tried as hard as I could to pivot and still provide opportunities to get value from purchased passes with the online classes.
The pivot was far more difficult, expensive and overwhelming than “let’s just go online” and it was proving to be unsustainable. Added to that, as of today, I am unable to secure insurance for those online classes.
With incredible sadness, I am announcing that Smiling Dog Yoga studio in Slave Lake is closing permanently.
I want to say thank you to my yoga community for your support for the last 9 & 1/2 years. Thank you the incredible instructors, the amazing students and the wonderful families who supported your journeys. May the spirit of our practices together weave their way throughout your lives.
